Permanent, colorfast, and very washable. You can easily create a palette of brilliant colors ranging from light pastels to deep, vibrant hues. Perfect for all natural fibers--cotton, rayon, linen, silk, wool, paper, reeds, and wood. These will not dye synthetics. Use for tie-dye, vat dyeing, batik, airbrush, hand painting, printing, spatter-painting, and more. This concentrated dye, which you add to tap water, gives you brilliant color. Generally, use 1 tbsp. of dye per 1 pound of fabric (three to six square yards or three T-shirts). Keep dyes in a closed container in a cool, dry place and they will remain usable for several years.Soda ash is the preferred fixer for this dye. Use 1/4 cup soda ash per 1 tbsp. of dye. Soda ash is also known as sodium carbonate, washing soda, or sal soda. A mild alkali that promotes the chemical reaction between Procion MX fiber reactive dye and cellulose fiber, soda ash is necessary to activate and "set" Procion dye.Urea is a humectant. Humectants attracts moisture from the air, keeping the fiber damp longer allowing a greater reaction time for the dye. Urea is used with sodium alginate thickener when printing, painting or directly applying Procion dye to fiber or is added to Procion dye for super intense color.Sodium alginate is used to thicken the dye to a paste consistency for printing and hand painting. Sodium alginate is derived from seaweed and is the most desirable thickener for Procion MX dye. Use Sodium Alginate SH for cotton and other cellulose fibers. It may also be used for silk when fine line definition is not required. Use Sodium Alginate F for silk and synthetics when fine line definition is desired.Synthrapol is a mild soap specifically made to prepare fabric before dyeing, and to remove excess dye so that dried articles may be washed with other laundry. When dyeing not all of the dye will react with the fiber being dyed. Excess dye, therefore, must be removed to prevent back staining. Rinse the fiber as thoroughly as possible with a small amount of Synthrapol, then launder with one tablespoon per load. Synthrapol suspends and carries the excess dye from the fiber.Caution: Common sense should be used when handling any dye or chemical. Prolonged inhalation of dye powder can cause an allergic reaction in some people, so avoid breathing the powder and wear a dust mask and rubber gloves. Keep out of eyes and mouth and always supervise children carefully. Art Supplies Textiles & Dyes Dyes Jacquard Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dye
